Default App Settings Issue

Wednesday 06th of June 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
Whenever I'm asked which application I would like to use and put a check mark in the default setting box, it doesn't take and the pop up keeps coming up. It does this for everything on my device that I try to open that has multiple applications that could be used. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Jelly Bean (Android 4.1.1): How to choose default ("Always") app

Tuesday 23rd of April 2013 / androidforums.com
Guys, I ran CleanROM 5.6, which is a Jelly Bean version of Android. I have a hard time with the default app choices. The system would not let me choose particular app "always" option as a default app. For example, when I click on a URL link in my e-mail message, I would be prompted with the choices of browser to handle to referred link. I try to select "Always" button for chrome, but keep getting following "Clear default app settings by going to Settings> Applications manager > All" I've encountered this issue with many other applications. The only thing I can do is to make a "just once" choice, which is kind of annoying because I have to do it all the time for the same apps. What can I do to fix the issue and be able to choose "always" for the apps I want to use as default for one or another task?

Strange Default Dialer issue Galaxy S4

Friday 06th of September 2013 / androidforums.com
Hi Everyone, I have recently moved over to Android from iPhone and love my S4. However I hate the default dialer and contacts to installed a new app from play.google.com.I also made sure I cleared the default dialer App settings and made the newly downloaded dialer the default for contacts and making calls. The problem I am experiencing is when I have missed a call. If I miss a call and pull down the notification window from the top and press the missed call information, I expected my phone to launch the default dialer/contacts app which I downloaded. However, it does not and launches the Samsung Dialer, even though it is not set as default.thanks in advance.I checked and double checked that the Samsung app is not default, and I have even tried different dialers and contact apps but I always experience the same issue.can anyone help please? I am kind off stuck and have reached the conclusion that I may be stuck with the default app which is horrible,

setting default apps

Monday 16th of September 2013 / androidforums.com
I'm having a problem on both my Note 8.0 and my S4, so I'm thinking this is a Samsung problem. Wondering if anyone has any experience with it, as it is driving me nuts and I really don't want to root. I do have experience with rooting, but I won't do it on a device that is still under warranty. Personal preference Anyway. I'm having trouble getting these two devices to remember my default app choices. For example, if I want to download a PDF from a webpage that I've opened in Chrome, it gives me three apps that I can use to download the PDF... Internet (which I've disabled, so you'd think it would stop showing up), Chrome, and MoonReader.I want to use Chrome, so I select it and tap "Always", and it gives me a message saying "clear default app settings by going to Settings / Application Manager / All".I have already cleared the default app settings, and this message ALWAYS comes up when I want to download a new PDF. It never seems to remember my choice. It isn't PDF specific. I have this issue with opening YouTube links, and when opening links embedded in emails, a

Youtube links in Gmail can't open directly in the Youtube app.

Thursday 16th of January 2014 / androidforums.com
Here's some behaviour I didn't have before:-Open Gmail-choose a YouTube "new video" notification mail-click the image in the videoPreviously, when default settings are deleted, it would give me the option to open it in Chrome, the default browser, or the YouTube app. Now, the YouTube option isn't there.Instead, I have to open the link in Chrome, and then I get the option to open in the YouTube app.Seems like a small thing, but it's still annoying. The app hasn't been updated in at least five days, so that doesn't seem to be the issue. It could also be that until now I didn't realise that this was happening. Is this "expected" (as in, the way the app should work after the last update) behaviour, or is something wrong?None of the apps has default start settings at the moment, to see where the problem may lie. didn't change anything.

"No Defaults set" No selection possible

Saturday 26th of April 2014 / droidforums.net
SCH-I535A: 4.3Kernal3.0.31Problem: Multiple types of apps giving me the standard, "Which app do you want/Set Default apps by.." notification. After navigating to settings/App manager/All//Apps in Question, Under {Launch by default} it says "No Defaults set" and the "Clear defaults" button is un selectable. It does it with all Apps that have multiple choices, Internet, text, Home theme apps etc.The device has had this issue about as long as I can remember but since I don't use it often, I just ignored it. After searching it seems most any thread discussing Default App settings is just instructions on how to set the default. Which I've concluding is not my issue. Thanks in advance. W.

3rd party SMS apps won't stay default - Default settings resets automatically

Thursday 02nd of October 2014 / androidforums.com
Hi.I'm having a very annoying issue regarding 3rd party apps for SMS's in 4.4.2: they just won't stay default no matter what.If I set any 3rd party app as default, the settings are cleared every few minutes, making the stock app default again. If I disable the stock app and make the 3rd party app default, Android will set Hangouts as default on its own moments later. If I uninstall Hangouts, leaving the 3rd party app as the ONLY enabled app capable of handling SMS, it'll still ask me when I open it!!!!I'm all out of things to try here and I can't find anything similar online. It'd be greatly appreciated if anyone could help figure this out. Thanks in advance

Change to default messaging app not sticking

Friday 24th of October 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
I use chomp SMS as the default messaging app on my Galaxy S4 (Android 4.2.2; kernel version 3.4.0; Build KOT49H.I545VRUFNG6 (updated yesterday)). This has worked without issue for a little over year. A couple of months ago the default messaging app started reverting to the system messaging app on each reboot of the phone (not rooted). The same behavior is being seen on my wife's Note 3 starting about the same time. Regardless of the method used to set chomp as the default messaging app (using chomp's option to set as default app or specifying it using the system settings) the change does not hold on reboot. I contacted the maker of chomp SMS and they suggested it could be due to an auto kill app but the one on my phone had chomp filtered so it does not auto kill it and my wife's Note 3 does not have an auto kill app. As a test I uninstalled the auto kill app on my S4 , rebooted and chomp was no longer the default messaging app. Set chomp back as the default messaging app, rebooted and again the default changed back to the system messaging app. I have uninstalled chomp SMS, reinstalle
