Useless contacts in messaging app?

Monday 08th of October 2012 / forums.androidcentral.com
Apparently when I logged into Gmail on my new Samsung Galaxy S3, it imported all of my Gmail contacts (ie every person I've ever sent an email to or received an email from), but not into the normal "contacts" app where they can be edited, ONLY to the contacts listed when I send a message. This is really frustrating because I like to send pictures to multiple people, so I tend to scroll through my contacts and pick who I want it to be sent to - now I have hundreds of useless contacts to scroll through! I thought maybe if I deleted the useless contacts from my Gmail account, it would also delete them from the messaging app - however, that didn't help. Any advice?

Copying the Email App In Gmail

Saturday 12th of May 2012 / droidforums.net
Is it possible to imitate the behavior of the email app with GMail? I'm not sure if it is normal, but clicking the email app on my phone is essentially equivalent to logging into my email from a browser(Georgia Tech college e-mail). If I delete an email on my phone, it is deleted from Tech's server and if I log in through their system it will be gone, and visa versa. I don't think that I've done enough testing just yet, but using "Send mail as:" and "Check mail from other accounts (using POP3):" under Accounts and Import seems to effectively just create a double of my school account instead of working through it like the email app. Also it is not updated instantly.I am not sure if this is possible, but based on the way that the app works, I expect that i should be able to do this with GMail in a browser. I know that this is not really a phone question...but Google's customer service is...non existant.

Duplicate email addresses when sending in gmail client

Sunday 23rd of October 2011 / forums.androidcentral.com
On the Droid 3, when sending an email through gmail all my email addresses appear twice like this: "user@domain.com" <user@domain.com>. The email is then unable to be sent, unless I delete one of the addresses. My Corporate synced account (the default email client??) can handle this format, but the gmail app can't. There are no duplicate contacts and everything looks fine in my Outlook Contacts (where the contacts originated from) Other than deleting one of the addresses before I send an email, or going through everyone of my contacts, is there a way to correct this? Thanks for your help!

Gmail vs Mail - confused.

Saturday 24th of December 2011 / forums.androidcentral.com
I am confused by trying to figure out the difference between Mail and the GMail application. Configuration under accounts:Google: Sync's everything (see note below).Gmail: Yes - sync So I have it setup twice under accounts. I had the Google gmail sync turned off for a while. I haven't been able to tell the difference. The notification bar shows mail with the Gmail icon. When I open it via notification I think it is taking me into the generic mail tool and it shows all my emails even if they were deleted off of my gmail account that day. I added the Gmail app to my home screen and removed the generic Mail icon. This seems to work. So what I want to accomplish is:1) Have one email tool that is pulled up from notification and home screen.2) When I delete an email in the gmail app I want it to delete it from my actual gmail account - it doesn't seem to3) Is there a way for the gmail app to let me move emails to folders in my gmail account? Thanks for any help.

How do you delete an email account on Gmail 4.5.2?

Thursday 29th of August 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
I use the gmail app to check my gmail accounts but I just graduated college and now have a defunct academic account that I want to delete. I can't login to it either so I constantly am getting sign-in error notifications. I see how to add another account but I can't figure out how to delete one.

Email vs Gmail Apps: Deleting an Account?

Friday 10th of January 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
This morning, at 0538 hrs, I discovered that both the Email and Gmail apps were checking my gmail account for messages (I had turned off notifications for one app but not the other and got an email). Looking at the accounts handled by each app, I see my gmail account in both. How do I remove that account from the Email app but leave it in the Gmail app? In Email, I see the option to add an account. But, I see no way to delete an account. At the phone level, if I go to IMAP under Settings | Accounts, I see that gmail account, but I worry that if I remove it I'll be removing that account throughout the phone and not just under the Email app. Is that same gmail account I see under Settings | Accounts | Google just a sort of logical pointer to the same account as under IMAP or are they completely separate entities?

How can I get rid of a contact list in People app

Sunday 07th of September 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
Before I started using Gmail, I had a Google account that was tied to my old email address. Using that account, I had created my contacts in the People app on my Android phone and also used Google Calendar and Picasa. When I later switched to Gmail, my Gmail address became my primary address and the old email address was associated with it as an "other email." This works fine on my PC, where I can log into my Google account, Picasa, my calendar, my contacts, etc. with either email address and it takes me to the same place. On my phone, though, I now have two slightly different contact lists in the People App. The one that shows for my Gmail address is up-to-date and syncs with my Gmail contact list. The one that shows with my previous email address does not sync (the famous "Sync is currently experiencing problems"), and that's ok with me. I'd like to get rid of the contact list associated with the old email address, but when I try to delete the contacts in it, I get "deleting this contact will delete information from multiple accounts." I know I can c

Can't delete IMAP account - by Google's design, or issue with LG software?

Sunday 18th of January 2015 / forums.androidcentral.com
On my G2, I added a Yahoo email account to the Gmail app as an IMAP account, which is a new feature of the Gmail app. However, I see no way to remove it, either in the general settings or the setting of the Gmail app. I made it stop syncing, but it's still visible. It's kinda weird. There's sort of a loop between the Gmail account settings and the general account settings, where "manage accounts" in the Gmail app wants to send you to the account settings in the general settings, while the general settings want you to go back to the Gmail app settings - but neither actually let you "manage accounts" - only tell them how to sync. Is this by Google's design, that you can't ever disassociate something from the Gmail app once you've adding it, or is this something weird with LG's version of the OS?
