"Cheap Cars" app appeared on home screen. Virus? NEW TO ANDROID. help.

Sunday 04th of November 2012 / androidforums.com
Hello. I realize there are multiple postings on this topic but none have helped me. I literally just got my phone yesterday. This is my first smart phone, I am brand new at this and still confused. I have only downloaded the following apps: instagram, pandora, facebook, tumblr & a free live wallpaper..which im sure is the culprit. I've already uninstalled it. Randomly a few hours I got a notification in my bar at the top that said "NO JOKE you have won 12,000 in gift cards" or some crap like that. I just hit the clear button and thought whatever. Then an icon appeared on my home screen that says "Cheap cars". I have downloaded Airpush detector AND addons detector. Both have said that my phone has no push ad problems or whatever. Does my phone have some sort of virus? What do I do? It's BRAND new..ugh. And how can I prevent this in the future?

OK, I ran Lookout and it didn't find anything. But have there been any droid viruses? I mean how does it know what it's looking for? It is weird. And nope, I don't have chrome to phone. I've had my phone on for awhile and it hasn't happened again so I got that goin for me, which is nice.

Infected by a Virus - PLEASE HELP!

Thursday 21st of March 2013 / droidforums.net
Hi, I just woke up this morning and turned on my phone and received an alert from my Avast app that my gmail app was infected with a Trojan called AndroidFakeInst-ey[Tri]. I chose to remove it then performed a full scan ofthe device to find 3 more problems - in my Pulse news app, my Amazon app & in my mobile banking app.How quickly would Avast have been able to pick up on this virus? Could it have been active in my phone for quite some time before being detected? Does this mean all my private material on my phone is now in the posession of a cyber-criminal somewhere? I figure I will need to change all my passwords and account security questions when I get home since I'm about to rush off to work but this is freaking me out. How thorough is the Avast virus removal? I tried downloading AVG and NQ but they didn't find anything afterwards. Do I need to factory reset the phone completely? Are there any other measures I can take to ensure these problems are gone? What could have caused this? I have "unknown sources" enabled since I download apps from the Amazon appstore from t

Yea i told exact the same thing if it would be his screen. It could be, doing some type of short especially the inpact that the phone got that caused the crack. But i do have a brother with a broken iphone damn he still use it as is. Lmao. He might can get a brand new droid x as a replacement if he calls in and pay the different. He needs to give out more detail.

Desire S does not get IP address from DHCP server

Wednesday 13th of August 2014 / androidforums.com
My Desire S connects to my WiFi network but will no longer allow me to connect to other computers on the network or the Internet. When I check the IP address it shows as 10.0.0.12My DHCP server is set to allocate addresses in the range 192.168.0.xI tried using a manual allocation setting for the phone MAC address in the router and also setting a fixed IP in the phone settings but the IP address does not change. This has happened within the last few days.A couple of weeks ago I received a message on my phone saying that it may have a virus and I should visit the play store to download antivirus software. I took this as an advertising ploy. Coincidence?I have not done any manual upgrades.I have rebooted the phone after removing & replacing the battery with no success. All other devices on the network including an Android tablet are not affected.Any help would be appreciated.Fred Philpott

Two nights in a row received a virus warning pop up on my Galaxy S4

Thursday 28th of August 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
I was browsing on Twitter both times: 1st time - it popped up with a choice to run a scan. Quickly shut down and it went away. Then I went online, learned it was a scam (I hope) and installed Lookout. 2nd time last night, almost as the same time as the night before, also looking at Twitter. This time I hit the back button - different versions of the message appeared each time. THEN, I got a message saying something about the pictures I was about to see were women in my neighborhood. Hit back again and porn - lots of porn - started showing up. Shutdown and it went away. Checked my apps - I haven't installed anything lately and definitely nothing shady. Also checked lookout - no alerts there. Is this just an ad or does my phone really have a virus? Thanks

Does my phone have a virus??

Wednesday 24th of December 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
I was doing some browsing the other day using Internet Explorer on my Galaxy S4. All of a sudden a blue screen appeared reading, " A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your Device. The problem seem to be cause by the following file:: mssmbios.sys and pci.sys." It also has a pop up message that says " Confirm Navigation" , and asks me if i want to stay on the page or leave the page. No matter what option i press, the pop up doesn't go away and it hasn't changed since. Any idea what caused it and how I can fix it? Any information is appreciated! Thankss!
