Where to Start
Monday 31st of January 2011
Hi All, I'm a newbie with Android and I don't know where to start. I read about "root" and haven't a clue what to do. I would like to take control of my LG Optimus M from Metropcs and set it up for my needs. This is my first smart phone and I'm truly lost. I don't know how to load an app but it appears that if I can get a barcode scanner app installed then I would be able to install other apps easily. I just figured out how to install the LG USB drivers on Win7 and can now see my my phone's card when using the USB cord in my computer. I was able to drag BarcodeScanner3.53.apk and z4root.1.3.0.apk on to the 2Gb card but haven't a clue what to do next. Any and all help is appreciated. The following folders are on the card also: .android_secure; Android; DCIM; Attachments; Blue Tooth; Handmark; z7logs; LOST.DIR and a demo.nimlog (0 bytes)Thanks in advance.......Tom
Simplest Way To Side Load Apps
Wednesday 21st of July 2010
I don't know if this was already posted and I am sorry if it was, but I would just like to show people how to sideload apps NOT using root and in very simple words. 1. Download Droid Explorer for your system. (de - Release: Droid Explorer 0.8.7.0 Beta)2. Now, go to your phone. Settings> Applications> Development > USB Debugging.3. Make sure you downloaded the drivers for the captivate then plug in your phone and select PC connect and mount the phone. 4. Now open Droid Explorer and connect the device. Right click and select batch install.5. Now a screen should pop up and you should select the APKs you would like to install and it is self explanatory from there on out. That should do it, sorry if this was posted somewhere else or something but I kind of figured this out on my own even though I am not a very techy guy.
Pasting issue on S3 and Jelly Bean
Monday 26th of November 2012
Hi! Unfortunately I installed via Ota the last official Jelly Bean version for my S3!Although I'm reluctant to install things when all work fine, but at same time I'm curious about upgrades. So after installed the last Jelly Bean version for my phone I couldn't paste text as I have always done!I noticed the crashes of Testservice program too (it has been mentioned on web as a issue due this last system upgrade). Now I don't want to wait for the next upgrade and I read on web that to fix the issue it's need to root the phone and enter into system folders. Or restore the factory setting. The second option is not recommendable for me because then I have to set all things, but perhaps the first option is the best way, but I know anything on root matter. Now I ask you something:1) after the root can I continue to receive officials Rom for phone via Ota?2) how can I do to keep the warranty or come back to initial condition for warranty?3) For root I need to install on pc drivers for S3 (Is there need for international Model? How can I know it?), to download cf-root.tar and load it when it will

(aka MID7047-4, FCC ID S71MID7048-7046)When I started on the road to root + gapps for this particular model, I learned a ton from Traveller1701 and Vampirefo. Those guys are the rock stars. So everything you read here is an extension of their work that I've modified for this PITA device. If you read Traveller1701's sticky post in this forum, in the second post he warns that devices with build after 2013 were modified to prevent rooting or loading a new bootloader. And he is spot on. My device's build is 20130402, and it would not load any of the updates that were supposed to allow rooting or install gapps. (it looks like their developers changed the security certs so it will not allow these packages. So nothing will load from the recovery console.) But with a few hours and some stubborn persistence it still can be done, and here's what I did:I followed Vampirefo's post here to get ADB drivers and utility for rootThe drivers did not work for MID7047, so I modified the .INF file to read the hardware ID. I've been doing this for years, but for those who don't know how to do this, you wil
