Security hole allows anyone to bypass and disable Galaxy Note 2’s lockscreen [video]
Wednesday 20th of March 2013
One of the ways to protect your smartphone from the prying eyes of others is to set a secure lockscreen; be it with the PIN, pattern, or password lock. But then again, they might not be good enough if you own a Samsung handset running Android 4.1.2, or in this particular case, the Galaxy Note 2.Terrence Eden has opened our eyes last week about the security flaw on the Note 2 that allows well-informed individuals to bypass the phone’s lockscreen. Now, a similar lockscreen bug has been discovered. All they have to do is place an emergency call from the lockscreen, enter any bogus number, hit the green dial button, dismiss the error message, and press the back button. That’s all it takes for someone to gain access to your homescreen – albeit only for a split second. However, his video demonstration shows how those windows of opportunity – considering that the process can be easily repeated over and over again – were more than enough to let him access Google Play, do a Voice Search on a lockscreen disabler app, install and run the app, and ultimately defeat the system. It took s
How to bypass lock screen in Cyanogenmod 7.2
Monday 18th of June 2012
I set up my phone to use a gesture based unlock, and told it to hide the unlock button. Now the gesture isn't working and I can't get past the lock screen. For the standard Android lock screen, there is a feature whereby if you enter the wrong pass code 5 times, you can press a button to enter the username and password of your Android account to reset the lock screen. Is there any way to do this, or any other way to bypass the lock screen on Cyanogenmod 7.2? I have adb shell access to the device.

I found something that might work. It's called Screen Lock Bypass and according to this article:The Screen Lock Bypass Android app is an application which allows users to unlock the lock patterns or PIN wherein the devices doesn’t provide option to reset your password using the Google Account. But the important question is how will you install this application on your phone? It can be done by login into the Android Market on your PC or laptop and installing this app by transferring using the USB cable and this application will work to remove or reset your PIN/pattern which is a temporary lock to your device. This application will bypass the locked screen all the time when you reboot your device and thereby it will allow users to take the backup of the data present. That is assuming he can connect the phone to his pc okay. If it works like it says ("This application does not remove or reset your pattern/PIN, it only temporarily disables the lock screen so you can access your device and backup your data before resetting it.") it might enable him to get to the reset area.M
security - Is a PIN lock screen inherently more or less secure than an app lock program?
Tuesday 21st of February 2012
The two ways I see to secure an Android phone is through a PIN lock screen or through an app lock program (Password is too inconvenient and pattern is insecure for various reasons). The lock screen has the advantage of keeping someone from the phone altogether, but an app lock program can allow me to use basic functionality while locking the apps that I choose such as Email or Package Installer. Is one option easier to hack/bypass than another? Let's assume that the App Lock program has a helper app that prevents it from being killed (although how well such an app works is worthy of being discussed in an answer - point being it takes a little more work than simply going to task manager and killing it). I am primarily concerned about data on the phone. I know that ultimately I cannot rely on either method to secure the phone indefinitely, but to only secure it long enough for me take various actions such as remote wipe, change Google password, Exchange password, etc...I'm running Gingerbread 2.3.6. For what it's worth it is rooted and has ClockWordMod recovery.

Hence my first sentence ... you locked it, you forgot your password, tough luck. Learn to retain and remember passwords (I'm using Lastpass Premium, and it's fantastic).
