First 10 things to do with your new Nexus 7 tablet

Monday 20th of August 2012 /
Summary: So you just bought a Nexus 7 tablet and you want to know what to do with this cheap but good Android tablet. Here's a short list of the things you can do first to help get the most out of your new toy. By James Kendrick for Mobile News | August 19, 2012 -- 12:20 GMT (05:20 PDT) The Nexus 7 tablet by Google is a great gadget for the price, but can be overwhelming for the new buyer. That's what it seems from the constant correspondence I get from new buyers asking me what to do first with the new purchase. Colleague David Gewirtz is in that crowd, having just bought a Nexus 7 and complaining to me he can't find online what he should do first. This is for David and all the others in the same boat. Once your Nexus 7 is out of the box follow the onscreen instructions to get it set up for use. That entails supplying your Google Account (aka Gmail) information and entering in your WiFi network details. Now that your Nexus 7 is online and logged in here's what you should do next. 1. Turn on auto-rotation. For some reason Google has decided that the Nexus 7 is best used in portrai

New Nexus 7 owner with a question or two

Wednesday 16th of January 2013 /
Greetings, just got a Nexus 7 32gb and love it! Sold my iPad for it so I could have only one ecosystem to buy into (have a Galaxy S3 as my phone) and so far I can't see myself going back to anything Apple. Couple questions though: 1) It comes with like 5 blank pages, no icons on them, and these are simple to remove on the GSIII, but I can't figure out how to delete them on the Nexus. 2) As this device only has 1GB of RAM, I would like to monitor it closer and make sure that when it gets low, I know it, and can quickly close apps that are running. Does anyone know of any notifications or widgets that bring RAM usage onto the screen so I don't have to go into Settings everytime? 3) The wife is getting annoyed at being woken up by email notifications in the middle of the night. On my GSIII, I just have to swipe down from the notification bar and there is a "mute" feature. I can't find one on the Nexus 7 and I really don't want to have to turn my volume down every night. There has to be a better way.....right?

Can't decide what to get...Nexus One or Nokia N900.

Tuesday 12th of January 2010 /
Help me decide. I currently have a G1 and I LOVE Android but I need a new phone. The N900 and N1 are both beasts hardware wise. The N900 has 32GB of built in memory and up to 1GB of RAM but the N1 has snapdragon and a bit bigger screen at 3.7" compared to 3.5" even tho that's ok. Biggest things tho are N1 is Android but the N900 has a physical keyboard which I love...but the N1/Android has full Google Maps! I love Google Maps and using GPS with it, it's the free turn by turn navigation. And the live wallpaper...but damn it no physical keyboard.Ugh I can't decide, might choose Nexus One at the end of the day if I really had to. If it's keyboard has multitouch then prolly even moreso...I think I mightve heard it does have some multitouch in the keyboard. Virtual keyboards NEED multitouch, they're garbage and unuseable without it IMO. With how fast I type and how much I text/chat I can't correct every tiny mistake I make by typing too fast on the virtual keyboard with both thumbs and take over 2 f'in mins to send/make one damn message. Love physical keyboards and

Nex-gen Nexus 7 to Sport 1920 x 1080 pixels Display, Release Date Is Close

Monday 17th of June 2013 /
It looks like we won’t have to wait much longer until Google will launch the next generation Nexus 7, at least according to a Cnet report which cites IHS analyst Ricky Park. The analyst has offered a few extra details related to the new Nexus 7, or Nexus 7 2, whatever you want to call it. The most interesting piece of information is the fact that Asus won’t be the manufacturer that will mass produce the tablet, instead Google has chosen Quanta, while the displays will be provided by Japan Display and AUO. AUO has been already mentioned in the previous rumors. It seems that the two display manufacturers will begin to ship the products for the Nexus 7 2 sometime on June or July.In case the information will turn out to be true, it matches the rumors launched by Digi Times, publication who previously claimed that the next Nexus 7 will be released at some point in July, which would make perfect sense as the current Nexus 7 was also launched in July. Further, it seems that Google is not planning to compete with the budget-friendly tablets that will be launched soon by various co

Nexus 7 (2013) Case shows up in Google Play for $49

Tuesday 08th of October 2013 /
A new hard case specifically made for the Nexus 7 and available in four colorsGoogle's second official case in the Play Store for the Nexus 7 (2013) has just arrived, and it's a hardcover microsuedeversion that comes in multiple colors. Simply named the "Nexus 7 (2013) Case," it is a molded hard plastic case that wraps around the sides and back of your tablet, with a stitched fabric flap to cover the screen and turn into a stand. The case comes in four different color combinations as well, to help fit your style— black/black, white/red, gray/blue and gray/red. Unlike the Nexus 7 sleeve this case is specifically made for the latest version of the Nexus 7, as you would expect with a hard plastic frame. If the Nexus 7 Sleeve was any indication, the Nexus 7 (2013) Case is priced rather highly at $49.99 before shipping. Shipping options look to break down at $3.99 for 5-10 day, $7.99 for 3-5 day and $11.99 for 2 day. Add in any state sales taxes and you're easily going to break $60 on this case. Ifyou do choose to order, the case is expected to ship by October 9

Completely unworkable 2012 Nexus 7

Monday 10th of March 2014 /
So my shiny Nexus 7 is completely broken. I never had any problems until I installed the KitKat update and then it just started randomly crashing or freezing. I eventually got really fed up and did a factory reset which solved the problem for a few weeks (but was a huge pain as I had to reinstall and reconfigure everything). Now it's started again and most of the time freezes almost as soon as I turn it on and reach the Google logo, although it sometimes gets further. I really don't know what to do with it. Can anyone suggest anything? It's not rooted, by the way. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk (because, sadly, my new Samsung Android phone turned out to be atrocious...)
