Photo backup queries

Sunday 14th of July 2013 / forums.androidcentral.com
New Nexus 4 (make that new Android user full stop), and I was reading the blog post about photo storage in the cloud. It reminded me that a need a solution similar to that of the iPhone photo backup to iCloud I was used to until now. I may have misunderstood this, but it seems pictures backup to Google+ rather than any feature which would enable you to back them up to Google Drive. In my opinion, utter madness, though I suppose it's a desperate ploy to get people to use Google+. For me that's a terrifying notion, another social network where I have to ensure my privacy settings are locked up to the hilt (for a social network I have no interest in using and managing). Then, as I was playing around in the gallery settings on my Nexus 4 today I saw the 'Google Photo Sync is ON' setting. Another terrifying notion as I have no idea where my camera roll is actually being backed up to and whether or not it's private - horrifying for anyone with kids. When I click the photo sync option what I see is a tick box for 'auto-sync app data' which sounds like nothing to do with photos at all. So th

I don't always want my photos backed up, especially when I'm not on wifi.I checked various settings, but can't seem to find anything to control automatic backup of photos.

Delete all photos on phone - but keep those backed up on Google Photos?

Sunday 01st of June 2014 / androidforums.com
I want to delete all my pictures on my Galaxy Nexus because I am running out of storage and the phone is being slow.I can't find a definitive answer about what settings I need to have on my phone and on Google Photos so that I can delete all the photos from my phone - and make sure that they will not be deleted in Google Photos in the cloud.I guess the underlying question is does "syncing" (which I think is the default) delete a photo on the cloud if you delete it on your phone - and if so how would you stop this?

What happened to the "photos' app on my phone? I only have "Gallery" and my Google+ is gone too!

Tuesday 05th of August 2014 / forums.androidcentral.com
Recently I noticed that my photos from my camera roll weren't being automatically backed up. I was one of those people who actually didn't mind having it back up and have a folder in my gallery app. Then I noticed I didn't even have Photos app anymore and just had Gallery. And also my Google + app is gone. Did these disappear with the android updates that happened a month or two ago? Does anyone else notice this? I just got a new tablet today and it synced my google accounts. On my tablet it has Photos app and Gallery App. And when I go into the Photo's app it has synced my photos to my tablet but only the same amount of what was backed up on my phone without all the new pics I've taken since May. from the date stamps it stopped syncing back in May and I've taken 100's more pics that aren't automatically backed up and I want them to be lol! so I was just wondering if this was something that happened with the updates? If this has been talked about on another thread already please direct me to it.

S4 Help needed (Warning: Long story)

Monday 22nd of September 2014 / androidforums.com
Hey guys, let me just start off by saying I have spent almost 8 hours straight today trying to figure this out and dig myself out of a hole I've created for myself, that being said, I'm going to try and be as detailed as possible so you guys know EXACTLY where I am and what I've tried. This post looks long but that's because it is. It's pretty much my entire day's worth of trouble typed out. So just bare with me and see if you guys can help me out here!I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 model: SGH-M919 it has Android 4.4.2. Now on to the problem: I've had this phone for almost a year now and a few months ago I rooted it. Did a simple Youtube tutorial and used Odin to do the work and everything worked out fine. A couple months down the road (yesterday), after using the phone like a teenager, downloading apps and cluttering it up it started to slow down and not run some apps. After thinking about it I decided to factory reset it. All of my contacts, photos, and videos were backed up on Google so I thought "why not?" Well, this is where $#!% hit the fan.. being rooted then factory re

Lost my Galaxy S5- Is there a way to still access my photos?

Tuesday 06th of January 2015 / forums.androidcentral.com
I lost my phone over the weekend and I was wondering if there is a way to still access my pictures. I know my photos were constantly being backed up someplace- it always notified me when the backup was complete after I took pics. I have looked on google drive but did not see anything (but maybe I didn't look in the correct place). Anyone have any ideas or tips on accessing/recovering my photos before I lock and erase my phone's data?

HTC M8 update deleted my internal storage... yaaay. Solutions? haaaaaaalp.

Tuesday 10th of February 2015 / forums.androidcentral.com
So the 5.0.1 update popped up this morning. Normally I choose not to update right away in an attempt to save myself from possible release issues, but it was morning, and I was groggy. ANYWAY. This lovely software update locked up my entire phone for about half an hour, and then deleted my internal storage. Unfortunately my pics/videos were on the device memory, and weren't being backed up by google + or any other app (yaaaay for preventative measures!) HTC was completely useless (as usual, they are "SOOOOO sorry" though). I am positively desperate to recover my photos. My question is... IF I root my device NOW is it possible for me to use DiskDigger or similar app to try to recover the pics or is it a total lost cause and I should start the grieving process and make myself a drink now. Any other methods anyone can recommend? TIA

How to turn of Google+ Photos

Wednesday 01st of April 2015 / forums.androidcentral.com
I just now used the Google photos app. I like it and all, but how do I stop it from uploading my pictures to Google+? I just want the app to upload them to Google Drive so they are backed up? I have two Google+ accounts connected to one. if this isn't possible how do I stop my pictures I take with my phone camera, from going into the Photos app? I hate Google+ with a passion, and if it wasn't for my YouTube Google+ being linked with my Google+ I would delete Google+. So here is my problem for anyone who doesn't understand:I hate Google+ but love the photos app. I don't my photos being automatically to Google+. If this cant be "turned off" how do I make my pictures on Google+ to be only seen by me. Also, how can I set up Photos to upload my photos automatically to drive. So basically I don't want no photos automatically uploading to Google+.
