Droid - Saving Apps to SD Card potential Froyo problem
Tuesday 29th of June 2010
When I first got the Droid I was like a kid in a candy store. I downloaded a ton of apps and now my phone is saying I am almost out of memory which has me extremely frustrated. Why Motorola would make this phone with such limited storage is beyond me. So, then I find out that in the Froyo 2.2 update we can now begin saving apps to the sd card which made me happy. Now I come to read this and it appears that it is not such happy news after all. Please forgive me for being ignorant, but what does this all mean below? According to google these kind of apps should not be moved to the sd card. What are running services? I am guessing things that I want to always be running in the background? Examples: Missed Call Reminder, Advanced Task Manager etc? Alarm Services? Do you mean if you have a daily/weekly alarm app downloaded that it won't go off?Input Method Engines? Do you mean Swype vs regular standard keyboard?Live Wallpapers I understand this one LOL! Live Folders? What is a live folder?Widgets. I understand this one but it won't come back until you do a system reboot? Account Managers?
Prevent app from running in background?
Tuesday 24th of January 2012
Been trying to figure this out for a while now. I have been able to fix this with a number of apps, but there are some apps that are just frustrating to deal with.I'm wondering what exactly can keep an app running in the background, regardless of what efforts your take to disable it?If I don't use an app much and don't want it running, I normally freeze the app. If it is an app I tend to use a bit more frequently, I take other measures such as an app manager that allows me to be extremely precise as to how and when it should run such as on startup, battery level, configuration change, application change, etc. This is a pain in the A** though and I really don't have the time to do this for every application. With that said, I'm wondering what other methods, other than freezing and the other mentioned above, I can take to prevent an app from running in the background?I will give you a perfect example...There are some third-party apps I have downloaded that I know I will use occasionally. One example is CamScanner. For the life of me, I can't get this app to stop running in the backgrou

What to do with a controversial duplicate question: Prevent Apps from running in background? - Android Enthusiasts Meta Stack Exchange
Tuesday 02nd of October 2012
I recently asked a question about preventing apps from running in the background. Before I asked it, I read several related questions and found that they didn't address the particular question space I was wondering about.Because I was sure that some people would think my question to be a duplicate, I tried to deal with that topic when I initially wrote it, and in later edits as the controversy developed. What I noticed (which, to be honest, wasn't unexpected) was that in both comments and answers, people kept trying to answer a different question than the one I asked--one that would have been a duplicate had I asked it.The upshot of it all was a few down votes, the question being closed, and subsequently collecting some reopen votes. And, some people portrayed me as being unreasonable when for not changing my question to match their misconceptions of what I was really asking. (Despite my question being clearly worded, people wanted to talk about what should happen, or discuss how to handle a particular app instead of a general solution that might or might not exist.)How could this si
Task Killer on the Droid X?
Saturday 17th of July 2010
So i've read a few users on here saying to NOT install task killer on Droid X (or any phones running 2.1 or higher). Wanted to know the reason for this? Or if any of you disagree with this? I currently have it running on my X cause it seems there are constantly unwanted apps running, which actually leads to my next question :Why does it seem apps on my phone are constantly running by themselves? Im new to android phones, but on my previous phone (blackberry) no apps would start by themselves after the phone was running??Anyway should I be running app killer or should I not be concerned with the apps running in the background on their own? What will hurt my battery and/or performance more?
What's going on with my Charge?!
Sunday 11th of December 2011
I bought my Droid Charge the day it was released. My problem(s) started the next day when I started downloading apps. It started running slower and as more apps were downloaded the greater the lag time. I asked in Droid Forums about it and the advice was to move all apps from the SD card to the phone which, I did, but there was no noticeable difference. Eventually, I moved them back to the SD card as I was running into low memory warnings. At the same time I also asked if there was a limit to the amount of apps you could download as long as I still had memory (RAM). I have over 240 apps on the phone and really like the way the phone is set up now except that it runs horribly. Trying to execute a simple phone call can be the hardest thing on the PHONE. I am always killing apps but of course they won't stay off. I have a number of widgets to help me evaluate/control what is going on and simply there are too many apps running in the background and the processor is near full boot unless I use an app to help me get some processes reduced. This obviously, is not the way it should work. So,

This may be a stupid question, but since i just recently gave up my unlimited data plan when i bought the Moto X , im now all of a sudden worried about data usage. Do open apps (running in the background when you tap the bottom right button) use data? How about battery? For example, when i have a browser window open, a game of scrabble that's ongoing and my Yahoo inbox app. Do i constantly need to be on top of closing all those apps? In which case, should i be using a task killer? I've read mixed reviews on their usefulness. Also, what do you find to be a big data hog? I haven't quite figured it out yet.
S4 Seems to be running slower these days
Thursday 05th of December 2013
Hello,I got my S4 about 6 months ago and have been happy with it (I was an iPhone user for many years prior). However, I have noticed that lately it has been running a bit slower. The clearest evidence is when I exit an app and the main screen is blank (except for the wallpaper) for about a second or two (at most). I then watch the icons fill up the screen (maybe another second). This is not a big deal, but why would it do this when it was running much quicker since I got it? I have "normal" wallpaper (just a blueish background) I don't think I am running anything that is a power hog. I haven't installed anything new or fancy in a while. I do have Battery Doctor which kills apps running in the background - as far as I understand.Any advice of what could be causing this and/or what I should be looking at?Thank you.
