Samsung Galaxy S2 Battery Drain Fix / Work-Around
Monday 16th of January 2012
I have found a work around for the battery drain issues after the 2.3.6 update to my GS2. I consider this to be a work-around, because an actual fix would involve someone at Google or Samsung actually correcting the buggy code. I am dividing this up into several sections that describe the work around and the rationale behind it. I'll start with the fix and save the details for later. ************ The Problem After the 2.3.6 update I noticed a sharp decrease in battery life. I went from being at more than 70% battery at the end of the day at work to being at 50% or less. I tend to keep WiFi on all the time because I connect to the network at my house, the AT&T store that is next to the place where I stop for a bagel in the morning, and at the office. I noticed that instead of "Display" being the biggest battery hog (as I was used to), it was now "Android OS". I was quite concerned because I was about to go on a business trip, and would need my phone for checking email, returning phone calls, etc. While on the trip I kept WiFi off, and I noticed a significant im
can't get my rooted evo 4g wireless tether to work
Saturday 03rd of March 2012
My name is Mat. I have just recently rooted my phone. I just rooted it to a normal ROM. I did this just for wireless tethering. Here is my problem: I installed the wireless tether app on my phone (evo 4g) and it seems to work fine. The devices I am trying to connect to it wont connect to it fully. for some reason, it sees the network and then just don't want to go all the way through the authentication or something. It has a full signal and it don't want to give me internet. I was able to connect my pc to it, it seemed connected, but when I went to the internet, it said something about the DNS was causing it problems and to go to adroidforums.net to find out what could be the problem. I went here of course though because I have seen alot of threads here that have helped me in the past, and I am hoping someone could help me. Any ideas? Any questions just please reply. Thanks to everyone who reads this.Mat

Ok. Got it. I couldn't get the phone to work in the Philippines however I have figured out how.It seems that the phone only wants to believe there is one valid APN. Once it uses that one no matter what you do or how you do it it wont change the APN from the wireless settings page. What I do to change sim cards when traveling now is to erase the cache from the boot menu. Turn the phone off, hold down r and m and turn it on. Then a menu is shown. Choose" erase cache" and restart the phone. When you do go to wireless settings and recreate the APN. You will be able to change sim cards like this. Its a pain but it works. Sent from my DROID PRO using DroidForums

Wireless Tether Fix/Work Around

This is a repost of what I wrote down on someones elses thread. Better to share the knowledge with everyone now instead of reposting every time the question is asked. Cheers and happy tethering.Step 1. Go to this link via your phone and download this version of Wireless Tether,wifi_tether_v3_1-pre101.apk - android-wifi-tether - WiFi Tether for Root Users 3.1-pre101 *** EXPERIMENTAL *** - Wireless Tether for Root Users - Google Project HostingStep 2. install it, duh!Step 3. Go into settings and follow this down to the letter,Change Device Profile-Motorola TargaChange Setup-Method-Dont touchEnable Wifi-Encryption-This is a must because with out it, no device will not see your SSID, have to manual enter them ie. laptop to connect.Change Passphrase-Has to be at least 13 letters/numbers. By default it was setup with abcdefghijklk. Either keep it like that or change it. Change SSID-Change to what ever you want it to beChange Channel-I had a couple of my friends try different setting and seems to work but for best results use "Channel 06(2437)" DO NOT ENABLE ACCESS-CONTROL- very b

Tether capability with android-wifi-tether (Wireless Tether for Root Users) - Page 2

Hi all,Okay I've followed the instructions several times (nandroid restoring after each time it fails to work). After running the wireless tether app, patching the tether script, and then trying to tether, the app reports that it has failed. The interface doesn't change to reflect any tethering, though, and nothing seems to be happening. However, if i run the tether script manually, (sh terminal start), and then try to start tethering, it DOES look like it has started, i.e. the interface changed and it looks like its in tether mode, BUT I could not find the wireless network and I don't think its being broadcasted (I tried connecting directly to the SSID "android" and it timed out). Also, to stop tethering i had to run the script manually and then hit stop tethering with the tethering app. Anyone have any idea whats going on here?

Droid1 on straight talk, wireless tether wont work
Sunday 01st of September 2013
I have a rooted Droid 1 I just hooked up with straight talk. Everything works but when trying to tether to my evo to use as a tablet basically, it won't connect. No data in or out. The evo can't even see it. I had the tether working 2 years ago when I had the droid on verizon. is there something straight talk could of done to prevent wireless tether from working. Seems to me if there was a way to do that all the carriers would be doing it. I updated the wifi tether app and it fails with enabling routing fix. But version 2.0.7 doesent have any failures. I looked up the routing fix and there is no way to enable routing fix in settings. I'm at a total loss with this one. I'm running android 2.3.3 cdm 7.0.3Sent from my Droid using DroidForums
